Weaknesses of Other Equipment Used Most Often (Coil and Analogue Rotary Machines)
- Speed Control and Needle Placement: Electric cosmetic tattooing machines are designed to run at one speed. The needle frequency (speed) drops when penetrating skin that is more dense or resistant. The fluctuating needle speeds create variable distances between the pigment "dots" (insertion points). This can cause poor color retention and inconsistent lines. Some machines also allow sideways movement "within tolerances" that may cause additional tissue damage. An analogy would be a sewing machine needle wobbling from side to side.
- Disease Transmission Problems: Governmental health care agencies are concerned about body fluid contamination of the hand pieces of tattoo devices. This can result in transmission of pathogens between people (spread of Hepatitis, HIV, etc.). Most permanent cosmetic technicians use traditional cosmetic tattooing equipment—manual, coil, or analogue rotary devices. Even with disposable needles and parts, tests on these machines have proven there is risk of transmission between clients. This is due to contamination by particles from air circulated within the hand piece and back-flow of fluids (blood and lymph) that sometimes cannot be removed, even with cleaning.

Individual Program Settings: The Intelligent has pre-programmed settings for different procedures that can be adjusted when needed. Internal software calculates the best needle frequency (speed) needed for optimal pigment retention. This is important because skin structure and texture differs by location. For instance, the skin of an areola is very dense compared to an eye lid. Thus, for areola pigmentation, the "Medical" program of the Intelligent provides a more efficient way to deposit pigment by automatically increasing power to the handpiece and adjusting the needle frequency. Similarly, for an eyeliner procedure, the "Eyes" program slows down the power and needle frequency to deposit pigment more gently. This technology improves upon the "one speed fits all" design of other conventional tattooing machines.
Automatic Speed Adjustment: The Intelligent maintains a stable needle frequency during all micropigmentation procedures. When resistance or pulling of the skin occurs, the digital control unit adjusts the power and needle frequency so the rate of needle punctures per second remains constant. A simple analogy is a car set on cruise control--when it reaches an incline in the road, the car accelerates to maintain a consant preset speed, or it slows down as it goes downhill. The Intelligent's stable needle speed ensures consistent pigment implantation, quality, and results.
Zero-Tolerance Handpiece: The Intelligent's handpiece comes standard with a Zero Tolerance System for better performance and results. The handpiece operates so there is no sideward fluctuation of the needle causing unnecessary tissue damage. This makes hair strokes look more natural and lines more defined.
Patented Safety Needle: The Nouveau Contour patented Disposable Needle Cartridge System has multiple safety features that address the concerns of health agencies. First, the needle and its protective tube are combined into one sterile disposable cartridge that is completely independent of the handpiece. Internal diaphragms halt and prevent fluid or airborne contaminants from entering the handpiece chamber which guarant
ees no cross-contamination between clients. Second, the needle protrudes from the cartridge only when the Intelligent is turned on and running. As soon as the power is turned off, the needle automatically slides back into the cartridge preventing an accidential "stick" to the client or technician.
